WASHINGTON (AP) – Supporters and opponents of Donald Trump are offering different views of a report that Trump might have used tax laws to avoid paying federal income taxes for years. Trump’s supporters have taken to the Sunday talk shows to say that if he did use the laws to his advantage, he was wise to do so.

Democrats say the report pokes holes in Trump’s claim to be a champion for working, tax-paying Americans. The New York Times reports that Trump declared a $916 million loss in federal income in 1995, which could have allowed him to avoid paying federal income taxes for up to 18 year
