College softball tournament raises money for service members

TROUTVILLE (WSLS10) - Three college softball teams come together to honor service-members.It's part of the Botetourt Sport's Complex 8th Annual Military Appreciation Tournament.

"I think it's outstanding any time the community can get involved and help those who have served and continue to serve," Tim Enright, a National Guard Veteran said.

Liberty University, Richard Bland College and Virginia Tech softball teams held a tournament to raise money for Military Family Support Centers Incorporated.

It's a non profit volunteers said supports the spouses of military members while they're protecting the country of if they passed away.

"The pay gets messed up and we overnight gift cards and we send those anywhere in Virginia," Roger Talmadge, the President and CEO of Military Family Support Centers Inc said.

Talmadge said since the tournament has started, it raised about $8,000-$10,000 which provides meals.

He said since January, the organization has provided 15,000 to 16,000 meals to military families this year.

"Some people that we give food to it will last a week, that could dozens of meals for that one family," Talmadge said.
