ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Wytheville Community College will inaugurate its seventh President, Dr. Dean Sprinkle at 2 p.m. at the Wytheville Meeting Center. Dr. Sprinkle began serving as WCC President in July 2015. He came to WCC from Wilkes Community College in North Carolina, where he served as Senior Vice President of Instruction. The community college closes at noon in celebration.

President Tim Sands' first State of the University address is this afternoon at the Moss Arts Center. Doors open at 3 p.m. And the address starts at 3:30 p.m. During his address, Sands will reflect on the issues, events, and accomplishments of the previous school year, and share his thoughts, ideas, and vision for the university in the current academic year. He will also talk about the new Creativity and Innovation District along the eastern edge of campus:

More people will be in Blacksburg this weekend for Virginia Tech's Fall Family Weekend. The campus community uses the event as an important way to connect families to the university, and for first-year families, it can help ease the transition when their students are settling into college. There is a movie, information sessions, tours and open houses.

If you are looking for a job... It's Macy's first national holiday hiring day. You can go to any Macy's between 2-8 p.m. After applying online for open jobs. Stores plan to hire seasonal associates for approximately 83,000 positions at its Macy's and Bloomingdale's stores, call centers, distribution centers and online fulfillment centers nationwide for the 2016 Christmas and holiday season.

Weather permitting, a weekend closure of Southgate Drive on the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg is planned from today at 6 p.m. until sometime on Sunday in advance of a new roundabout opening at the intersection of Southgate Drive and Duck Pond Drive. Southgate Drive will be closed at its intersections with Route 460 and Research Center Drive/Beamer Way. Duck Pond Drive also will be closed at the last entrance to the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine Hospital.  Drivers will need to use Prices Fork Road, Research Center Drive or Main Street to access the Virginia Tech campus.  Drivers accessing the veterinary medicine hospital are recommended to use Prices Fork Road to Duck Pond Drive.  During the weekend closure, construction crews will remove old pavement markings, paint new lines and install signs prior to the new roundabout opening.  In addition, a crane will be in the area to drive steel beams in the ground for temporary shoring needed for construction of a new pedestrian underpass beneath Southgate Drive.
