ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - The community is reaching out to help a 5-year-old girl who was hit by a car while waiting for the school bus.
Alexandra Green, a kindergartner, was hit by a driver who allegedly drove past the school bus' stop sign, hitting her as she crossed the street.
She's expected to be okay.
After a family friend posted a message in a Roanoke community Facebook group, volunteers stepped up to show the family their support.
"She just got released last night. She's gotten a broken arm, a broken leg, some bumps and bruises, but all in all she is doing really good. They told her that she had to be bedridden until further notice. But she is smiling away and just grateful it's not worse than what it really was," said Victoria Maclean, the event's organizer.
Organizers are collecting donations of toys, cards and get-well items for a giant care basket.
You can drop off your item on Saturday from 12 to 3 p.m. at Roanoke Cell Phone Repair at 3824 Williamson Road.
