(WSLS 10) -   Radford University is partnering for the second year with the global nonprofit organization Fear 2 Freedom to raise awareness of sexual assault and benefit victims throughout the New River Valley.  Radford students will assemble hundreds of recovery kits to be given out at the Carilion New River Valley Medical Center and the Women's Resource Center in Radford.  The kits will include clothing - which is often kept as evidence after victims are examined - basic toiletries and notes of encouragement, written by Radford University students.

The National D-Day Memorial, Botetourt County Historical Society, The History Museum of Western Virginia, and the Taubman Museum of Art will make an announcement this afternoon.  The four museums will talk about a statewide designation for historic pieces in their collections, and discuss the importance of preserving the tangible reminders of our past.

The Wythe County Board of Supervisors will discuss the school capital improvement plan. It calls for construction and renovation to address Wytheville area schools and eventually Fort Chiswell. The board of supervisors has expressed concern about the significant money it would take for the current plan. Phase one includes installing AC at four schools and starting George Wythe High School construction. The school board is asking for the county for half a million dollars to help address short term capital needs and start a funding solution to provide $20 million for the new George Wythe High School within the next 12 months.

About 90 fishermen are in the Martinsville Henry County area for the Fishers of Men National Tournament Trail - East Region - District 4 Championship Tournament. The event secured through a competitive bid process is on Philpott Lake through Saturday. The event features three days of open practice followed by two days of competition and two public weigh-ins.

Today is the last stop on a listening tour to improve police community relations in Virginia. Local law enforcement agencies and community partners will be at the Department of Forensic Science Western Lab in Roanoke this morning. The Department of Criminal Justice Services is also providing training to law enforcement agencies on Fair and Impartial Policing, Community Engaged Policing, and leadership training on police and community relations.

Beatles fans... you may want to make a stop in Roanoke today. Ron Campbell, director of the 1960's Saturday Morning Beatles Cartoon series and animator of the Beatles film Yellow Submarine will make a personal appearance at Wilson Hughes Gallery, on Campbell Avenue. He will showcase his original Beatles cartoon paintings created specially for the show and create new Beatles pop art paintings at the exhibit.  The exhibit is free and all works are available for purchase.
