DogtoberFest set for Saturday

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - On Saturday, Saint Francis Service Dogs is hosting the 12th annual DogtoberFest from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Saint Francis campus.

"DogtoberFest has grown over the past 12 years and we enjoy visitors throughout Virginia, and meeting all of their unique dogs. It's also an opportunity for us to remind people of our mission which is to assist children and adults with disabilities to become more independent and self-sufficient through partnership with a professionally trained service dog." said Saint Francis Service Dogs Development Director, Niki Voudren.

DogtoberFest offers fun for all ages from the Roanoke Animal Hospital's Parade of Dogs and costume contest to PawCasso, where dogs use their paws to paint. You can pamper your pooch at the Doggie Day Spa while listening to live music, and try the agility course!

The kid's play area will offer fun for children of all ages and includes Star Wars characters, an obstacle course, a slide, games and prizes. Vendors will offer a wide range of wonderful and unique items and you can have your dog Blessed.

Seven Doors Winery will offer hot mauled wine and a mimosa bar, while Parkway Brewing serves four different types of seasonal brews. There will be food trucks and a bake sale too!

"We want everyone to come out with their dogs, and enjoy DogtoberFest," said Voudren who offered the reminder that owners' dogs must be on leash and have proof of a rabies vaccine before their dog can be admitted to the festival.
