Longtime friend of Arnold Palmer reflects on The King's passing

FAIRLAWN (WSLS 10) - A Montgomery County golf pro remembered Arnold Palmer on Monday, his friend of more than 40 years.

John Norton, now the golf pro at the Pete Dye River Course in Fairlawn, met Palmer back in 1970 during his time at the Country Club of Miami.

Norton said Palmer was always the perfect gentleman. He even named his son in Palmer's honor.

Norton also said even though Palmer brought golf to the masses and experienced wild success, he always had time for the people around him.

"I remember him saying to me, 'Make sure you sign your name to where people can read it,'" said Norton.

The Pete Dye River Course staff wore black shirts Monday to remember Palmer.
