Car hits Roanoke City student waiting to get on to school bus

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Roanoke City Public School officials said a kindergartner was hit by a car on Monday morning. It happened near the intersection of Elm Ave and Fourth Street.

School officials said the bus was stopped with its lights flashing and stop signal arm extended. The student was preparing to cross the street to get on the bus, when a driver failed to stop and hit the student.

According to police spokesman Scott Leamon, it appears the child's injuries are non-life threatening.

The driver, Matthew Phillip Henry, 48, of Roanoke, was issued a summons for passing a stopped school bus while loading.
