Campus police learning how to keep colleges safe

RADFORD (WSLS 10) - Police officers from 10 colleges and universities across Virginia are at Radford University this week to learn how to stop crime on their campuses.

State and federal leaders are travelling the country offering campus crime prevention training. They are talking to officers about national and local trends, and how to make campuses more secure.

"More recently, we're seeing crimes that are getting much closer to the campus and more horrific sorts of crimes," said trainer Lee Struble. "Now, murders happen around the campus and get closer to campus."

This is the 10th year for the training, which has reached hundreds of colleges and federal agencies.

Radford University police said they will conduct security assessments on all their buildings after the training.
