PHCC's cafeteria providing new opportunities for culinary students

HENRY COUNTY (WSLS 10) - Patrick Henry Community College students who buy food the college's cafeteria will now be served by fellow students.

The cafeteria is now run completely by culinary students instead of by an outside company.

A grand opening celebration was held Thursday.

The college's culinary instructor, Bob Koester, said students usually only get this opportunity at larger colleges and universities, so he's looking forward to helping them apply what they're learning in the classroom.

"I'm very excited. Some of the students absolutely love it. It puts them so much closer to a real job in the community because we can actually train now for speed," explained Koester.

Students also have the potential to get hired as a paid employee at the cafeteria or do an internship or a work-study program.
