Virginia Tech students create way to keep babies warm in Africa

BLACKSBURG (WSLS 10) – Virginia Tech students are making a difference for newborn babies around the world.

After a trip to a rural hospital in southern Malawi, a team of engineering students created what it is calling a baby pod, which is designed to help keep babies warm, because there is often limited access to electricity in that area.

The pod was a collaboration with mothers there in Africa, and it was crafted with all locally available and inexpensive materials.

The Virginia Tech team is now working on a similar design to help keep babies safe in ambulance settings as well.
