Two arrested for alleged marijuana growing operations in Amherst County

AMHERST COUNTY (WSLS 10) - The Amherst County Sheriff's Office, with assistance from Virginia State Police, has arrested two men related to separate marijuana growing operations in the county.

On September 8, officers found about 35 marijuana plants in the 100 block of Scotts Branch Road in Amherst. The plants have a street value of about $42,000.

John Franklin Maddox, 43, of Amherst, was arrested for manufacturing marijuana for others on the same day and taken to Amherst Adult Detention Center.

On September 20, Jeffery Keith Bryant, 52, of Amherst, was arrested for manufacturing marijuana for others and transported to the Amherst Adult Detention Center.

Law enforcement officers seized a total of 23 plants from Bryant's grow near Dug's Hill Road in Amherst. The plants have a street value of approximately $27,600.
