Botetourt County announces no-fee grace period for short-term rentals

BOTETOURT COUNTY (WSLS10) – Botetourt County leaders have extended the deadline for Airbnb owners to get the proper permits.

Leaders said, short-term rentals are growing in popularity in rural areas and to make sure Airbnb operators are in compliance, the county has waived permit fees until the end of this year.

“We want to promote tourism and those activities. We want people to come and see our county, a lot of these opportunities are in the rural parts of the county promoting outdoor activities and we wanted to make sure it was done in a safe and healthy way,” said Botetourt County spokesman Cody Sexton.

Sexton said anyone currently operating an Airbnb can pick up a permit at the planning and zoning office in Fincastle.
