Appomattox County says Friday's euthanasia was handled properly

APPOMATTOX COUNTY (WSLS 10) - Appomattox County's lawyer, J.G. Overstreet, released a statement on Wednesday afternoon that states that the preliminary investigation shows that the euthanasia of an animal that happened on Friday "was handled properly and in accordance with State law."

The county administrator has been investigating the details related to the euthanasia since Monday, according to Overstreet.

Once the investigation is complete, the county administrator will issue a press release as to her conclusion.

On Thursday morning, the Appomattox County Animal Shelter announced it would not be open to the public for the day and only county employees will be permitted to access the shelter until further notice.
