(WSLS 10) - The trial begins today for the man charged with attempted capital murder in Pittsylvania County. The charge comes from an incident in October of last year. Deputies say when they pulled Frizzell over, he got out of his car holding a gun, which he refused to drop. He was then shot by a deputy and treated for non-life threatening injuries. The trail is expected to last three days.

Today is the deadline to apply for a disaster loan from the Small Business Administration for those affected by flooding in June. People in Alleghany County and the surrounding counties are eligible. Businesses and non-profit organizations can borrow up to $2 million with homeowners able to borrow up to $200,000.

Appalachian Power holds an open house today about a new transmission line project in the county. The new will support the Commonwealth Crossing Business Centre. Construction will take less than 18 months and begin with the business centre secures a business for the site.

If you're starting to look at college, you can attend a College Fair tonight at the Salem Civic Center. Representatives from two and four year colleges and universities will be there to talk about their programs and the admissions process. The fair is tonight from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. It is recommended that you fill out information online before going in order to speed up the process.

The Franklin County Board of Supervisors will talk about the future of Jamison Mill Park. The park is owned by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which has been closed for the last two years. The board will talk about the costs associated with running the park and could enter into negotiations to lease the it.

Vinton Town Council holds a public hearing tonight on rezoning the old William Byrd High School. The rezoning request will allow the building to be used for apartments as well as recreational and civic units. The two buildings will house approximately 80 apartments with the auditorium to be used for other purposes.
