Update: Streets reopened after reports of ‘Suspicious package’ in Lynchburg


LYNCHBURG (WSLS 10) – Lynchburg police responded to the 100 block of 12th Street at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday for a suspicious package report.

Officers established a perimeter and closed a portion of 12th Street and Main Street until the package could be rendered safe.

Members of the State Police Division III Bomb Squad responded to the scene and were able to inspect the contents of the package and determine it was safe.

The package was determined to be a cooler with a padlock on it that was left in a parking space.

The owner was located and confirmed the cooler belonged to him.

Update: 9:58 a.m.

Lynchburg PD reports the suspicious package at 12th and Commerce Streets has been cleared.

It says the package was a cooler.

LPD is investigating a suspicious package in the area.
