Blacksburg looks to create more biking paths for commuters

BLACKSBURG (WSLS 10) - Hundreds of Blacksburg students and professionals could be changing the way they commute in the next few years.

The Blacksburg Town Council just passed a new climate action plan that was a decade in the making.

While creating that plan, leaders gave out a survey to find out what citizens' top priorities were. More than 700 people responded and the majority wanted more biking and pedestrian infrastructure.

"There's great biking infrastructure in town, but for somebody who's got a 3-mile commute from their home to their office or to school, two and half miles of that might be a really easy, but there might be that one little section that they don't feel quite so comfortable," said Blacksburg's sustainability coordinator Carol Davis.

There are preliminary plans in the works to connect biking and walking paths around the Prices Fork and Patrick Henry corridors.
