PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY (WSLS 10) - A Tunstall High School student faces multiple charges after police say he brought a loaded handgun to school on Thursday.
The student faces charges of unlawfully carrying a concealed weapon, knowingly and intentionally possessing a firearm while under the age of 18 and unlawfully carrying a firearm on school property, a Class 6 felony.
On Thursday morning, school administrated were notified a student may have a gun. Immediately, the school resource officer found the student and took the student to the office.
A search of the student's locker revealed a loaded handgun, according to the Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office.
The gun was seized and rendered safe by the school resource officer and the student was taken into custody without incident.
The juvenile was transported to W.W. Moore Detention Center in Danville until further Order of the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.
There were no injuries reported as the result of the handgun being on campus.
In addition to the criminal charges, the juvenile is facing disciplinary action by the Pittsylvania County School Board.
The investigation is continuing into this matter.
