Nation's first collision reporting center now open in Roanoke County

ROANOKE COUNTY (WSLS 10) - The nation's first collision reporting center is now open. It serves Roanoke and Roanoke County drivers.

If police respond to an accident where no one is hurt and the law is not called into question, drivers will be referred to the collision center, which is where the accident report will be written.

The idea is to free up officers to respond to major crashes and crimes.

"I think it was a whole lot better and easier process than for him having to sit there, have to talk to her, to talk to me, to get the information that happened," said one driver, William Flood.

About 40 to 50 percent of all traffic accidents are minor, according to police.
