Good Samaritans save man from fiery crash

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (WSLS 10) - Officers and good Samaritans in North Carolina work to rescue a man who was trapped in his truck after a head-on collision.

It happened early this week in Winston-Salem.

Police body camera video shows people running to the burning truck.

Officers grabbed fire extinguishers from their cars, trying to get the fire under control so they could get to the driver.

Chris Owens, the good Samaritan, said, "He was saying the guy was stuck in the vehicle. We just went to it, trying to help him out, put the fire out, got crowbars to try and pry open the doors because it was stuck; it wedged him in."

He was pinned in after officers say a school bus hit him head on, causing his truck to wedge under the bus.

Within minutes, firefighters arrived to finish putting out the fire.

The officers' efforts to keep the fire down may have saved his life.

The driver of the truck is recovering in the hospital this morning.

The school bus driver faces charges of failing to yield the right of way.
