Police arrest man suspected of causing fire at Florida mosque

ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FL (WSLS 10) - Police in Florida say they have caught the man they believe intentionally set a fire at a mosque three days ago.

It's the same mosque where the gunman who shot more than 100 people at an Orlando nightclub occasionally worshipped.

The St. Lucie County Sheriff's office says tips from the community led to this suspect, 32-year old Joseph Schreiber.

Police say that Schreiber is known to law enforcement and has a history of robbery.

Investigators searched Schrieber's home and found a motorcycle consistent with the video and other evidence.

Major David Thompson with the sheriff's office said, "An examination of Schreiber's social media account also shows multiple anti-Islamic posts and comments."

The fire seriously damaged the mosque and it's not clear if it can be repaired. People are volunteering to help, free of charge.

If convicted, Schreiber could face life in prison.
