Annual Henry Street Heritage Festival set for Saturday

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - The Roanoke Valley will celebrate African-American culture this weekend.

The 27th annual Henry Street Heritage Festival takes place on Saturday.

Organizers said the event offers a variety of music ranging from gospel to jazz as well as rhythm and blues.

Nearly 4,000 people attended last year's festival and proceeds benefit the Harrison Museum of African American Culture.

"I'm very proud, it takes a lot of work, to put this on, we start planning in January as early as January to get this together, but it's so worth it when you see thousands of people there at Elmwood Park packed to capacity," said Kianna Price Wade, a committee member.

The festival starts Saturday, 11 a.m. at Elmwood Park.

Tickets in advance can purchased at the Circle in Square for $20, and on the day of the event it's $25.

Tickets for teens are $15 and children 12 and under are free.
