(WSLS 10) – The Roanoke Blacksburg Regional Airport holds a swearing in ceremony today for the officers in its Public Safety Department. A law change last year required the department to change from a law enforcement agency to a private police department. In the future, officers will be cross trained to perform as both police officers and fire fighters.

The City of Lynchburg and the Region 2000 Solid Waste Authority will holds a public forum today. The forum will begin the process of studying the long term options for solid waste management in the region.

The Christiansburg Recreation Center hosts a health fair today. More than 100 exhibits will be set up, offering health screenings and flu shots. Pharmacists will talk about several topics including drug interactions and there will be healthy cooking demonstrations. The fair runs from noon until 4 p.m.

The Franklin County Agricultural Fair begins today. The fair includes midway rides, competitions, music, livestock shows and more. The Virginia Tourism Corporation will bring oversized LOVE artwork to the fairgrounds this year to promote tourism. This is the third year of the fair.
