"Stop the Violence" walk in Roanoke planned for Sunday

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - People in Roanoke are joining hands in hopes of preventing violence.

On Saturday, there will be a "Stop the Violence Memorial Walk" in Roanoke. Organizers plan to read the names of families affected violence.

The event comes just weeks after one person was killed and 10 others were hurt in a shooting at a Roanoke nightclub.

Grover Price, the head of The Hope Center and one of the event organizers, is compiling a list of people killed or injured by guns in Roanoke. He hopes saying the names at the event will help raise awareness of the negative impact violence has had on Roanoke families.

"We want to take time out and remember those people who have died in these ways," said Price. "And give families a chance to know that we are thinking of them."

Sunday's event starts at 5 p.m. at Wilmont Park. People will walk to the Martin Luther King Jr. Bridge in Roanoke.

Food and drinks will be available during the event.
