Pesky Pelicans Claim Mills Cup

LYNCHBURG (WSLS 10 SPORTS) -

The Hillcats had the bats going early Wednesday night. In the bottom of the third they trailed 2-1 when Francisco Mejia crushed one deep to center for a 2-run home run. Lynchburg took a 3-2 lead and kept it until the seventh inning.

Bryant Flete hit a blooper to shallow center that was good enough to plate a pair of base runners. The Pelicans reclaimed the lead but weren't done just yet.

Jeffrey Baez hit a grounder to third base but the throw home was airmailed so add another run for the pesky Pelicans.

Hillcats had one last chance in the ninth, with the tying run at the plate but Taylor Murphy struck out to end the game.

Myrtle Beach wins the Mills Cup for the second consecutive season, their first back to back since 1986.
