MADD honors local law enforcement for DUI arrests

VINTON (WSLS 10) - Dozens of law enforcement officers across the region were honored for their efforts keeping drunk and drugged drivers off the roads.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving held its annual awards luncheon on Wednesday afternoon at the Vinton War Memorial.

State and local officers from each county and city in Southwest and Central Virginia were honored for having the highest number of DUI arrests in their department.

Many of those honored were being recognized again for their work.

"We still lose over 250 people or right around there a year in Virginia alone to impaired driving and with that those kinds of statistics you know we got a lot more work to do until we're down to know people dying from impaired driving or being injured," explained Christopher Konschak, MADD Virginia.

Delegate Greg Habeeb served as the keynote speaker, thanking officers for the work they do in such a divisive time.
