Car plows into Radford home, just misses sleeping man

RADFORD (WSLS 10) - A Radford man is thankful to be alive after a car came crashing through his bedroom.

Anthony Iacovone said he was sleeping at about 6:15 a.m. Tuesday, when he suddenly heard cinder blocks crashing through his window. Just seconds later, a car followed behind.

He was able to jump out of the way just in time.

Radford police said the driver was a 64-year-old woman who experienced pedal confusion while backing up.

"The second that I spring out of my bed, I feel an eight-foot long concrete beam graze the back of my head," said Iacovone. "All in five seconds or so, I sprung out of bed, leaped to the edge of my bed, ran out the door feeling debris hitting my back as I go."

Four men live in the home, but only two were there at the time. They said the driver was backing down the hill of her driveway across the street, then made her way up their driveway and through stone barriers to reach the house.

She will not face charges. No one was injured.

The crash caused an estimated $30,000 worth of damage.
