Project about to begin to bring more electricity to downtown Danville

DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - Danville Utilities is addressing concerns from residents served by the power substations in downtown Danville.

Tuesday morning, the company's director, Jason Grey, spoke at the River District Stakeholders Meeting.

A big focus of the meeting was the concerns that people have as the result of the Bridge Street substation failure in August that left over 3,000 people without power for over 12 hours.

As we've reported, Danville Utilities plans to restart routine inspections of its substations.

Grey also talked about the company's project at the intersection of South Union and Main Streets to bring more electricity to downtown.

"That will give downtown more electric service capacity that is needed for more businesses moving in to give them more capacity," Grey explained.

Work on the project is expected to begin an about a week and take about two months to complete.
