ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - New technology is helping Carilion monitor patients more effectively thanks to a partnership with PeraHealth.
The software collects patient's vitals, lab results, and nurses' notes to create an overall score using algorithms. This score then helps physicians determine if a patient's condition is improving or deteriorating over time.
Doctors hope this will be a useful tool in early prevention.
"A lot of times patients can very suddenly change their status from being not critical to critical," said Carilion's Medical Information Senior Vice President. Dr. Stephen Morgan. Â "This gives us yet another tool to be able to help identify those patients before they are in critical."
The new tool gives health care providers a quick look at a patient's overall health rather than having to sort through files.
