VDOT Crews say expect delays on 81 for Saturday's Battle at Bristol

WYTHE COUNTY (WSLS 10) Fans are counting down the hours until kickoff to the Battle at Bristol when Virginia Tech takes on Tennessee.

"It feels great I can't wait it's going to be fun it's going to be exciting," Travis Hoak, who is going to Saturday's game said.

Wythe County leaders say they usually see about 70,000 vehicles on the road, but could expect about 150,000 this weekend, which is why V-DOT is urging drivers to give ample time when driving to Bristol.

"Ready to roll, can not wait, literally have been prepping for this for like two years at least," Kaitlyn Potter, who traveled from Covington for the game said.

On Interstate 81 North and South from mile marker 87 to 57 in Wythe County, drivers can expect delays from from 6 a.m. Saturday morning to Sunday afternoon because of so many people travelling for the game.

V-DOT Crews say they'll have people monitoring the traffic cameras the entire weekend to make sure they can get stalled vehicles or accidents, if any, cleared as soon as possible.

"It's been good, really we good, we had to stop a couple of times, it's been easy though,, it's been surprisingly easy," Potter said.
