Roanoke police: Man reportedly following girl home from school poses no threat

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Roanoke police say the man who was allegedly following a Highland Park Elementary student home from school poses no threat to the community.

On Thursday afternoon, the DARE officer at Highland Park Elementary School identified the man who matched the description given by the girl.

Police identified him and say he was fully cooperative in the investigation.

He told police that because he cannot drive, he often walks to different places around the area.

At this time, investigators have found no evidence that the individual poses a threat to the community.

The Roanoke Police Department encourages parents and guardians to discuss with their children the importance of being aware of their surroundings at all times, walk in groups, and to tell a trusted adult if they see or hear anything see or hear anything suspicious.
