ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Below are some of the events in our area to remember the 15th anniversary of 9/11.

Roanoke Fire-EMS and the City of Roanoke Set to Host 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb!

Roanoke Fire-EMS and the City of Roanoke are hosting a 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb event at the Wells Fargo Tower on Saturday, September 10th, 2016.

The Stair Climb participants will be climbing the equivalent of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center to commemorate the fallen firefighters of 9/11. Proceeds benefit the FDNY Counseling Services Unit and the programs provided by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) to support the families of our nation's fallen firefighters. Participants wishing to make the climb in turnout gear and SCBA may do so and are asked to bring their own gear, this is entirely optional.

Online registration is closed, but you can still register IN PERSON on Saturday (CASH OR CHECK ONLY)!

· This event is open to the public

· On-Site Registration: 7:30-8:45 a.m.

· Opening Ceremony: 9 a.m.

· Climb Begins: approximately 9:30 a.m.

· Climb Ends: 1:30 p.m.

· Social after the climb at Soarin Ridge on Shenandoah Ave. with free food from Mission BBQ!

On this the 15th anniversary of 9/11, The Wythe County Patriotic Committee is presenting a special program to remember those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 and to honor those who have made our nation whole again. There will be guest speakers who responded to the attacks at the Pentagon and World Trade Center.

Roanoke College will commemorate the 15th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks with several remembrance events on Sunday and Monday.

On Sunday, September 11, at 8:30 a.m., members of the Sigma Chi fraternity and others will gather at the fraternity's house on Roanoke's Elizabeth Campus to remember victims of the Sept. 11 attacks, including alumnus Stephen LaMantia '85.

LaMantia worked for Cantor Fitzgerald, a financial services firm with an office on the 105th floor of the World Trade Center's North Tower. He was president of Sigma Chi his senior year at Roanoke.

The gathering will be held at the memorial for LaMantia, which stands in front of the Sigma Chi fraternity house. At 8:46 a.m., Joe Ghobrial '04, a member of Salem Fire/EMS, will raise the U.S. flag to half-staff.

Individuals will ring the College's bell on the main campus at specific increments on Sunday morning to represent the times of the different Sept. 11 attacks. The bell ringing will begin at 8:46 a.m. and end at 10:28 a.m.

Monday, Sept. 12

Roanoke will hold a memorial service at 9:50 a.m. at the campus flagpoles on High Street. The service will include the ringing of the College's bell, prayer and speakers. Some student veterans will share their memories of Sept. 11.

The Valleywide 15th Anniversary 9/11 Remembrance Service will be held on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at 2 p.m. at the 9/11 Memorial in Downtown Salem

Patrick Henry Memorial Library is hosting program remembering 9/11 on Thursday, September 15, at 10 a.m. The library is located at 204 Lynchburg Avenue, Brookneal.

Woodman Life, formerly Woodman of the World, will host the program, which will honor and remember those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, attempting to help and save each other, including fireman, police, and first responders.

The Woodman Life chapter will also donate a new flag to the library.
