Police searching for man who admitted to shooting ex-wife in Facebook video

by: Associated Press and WSLS.com staff – NORLINA, N.C. (AP) - North Carolina authorities are searching for a man who they say shot and killed his 15-year-old son and later used Facebook to admit to shooting and critically wounding his ex-wife.

Norlina Police Chief Taylor Bartholomew said Earl Valentine kicked in the door to his ex-wife's Warren County home Tuesday and shot her before killing his son. The chief said he later talked to Valentine on the phone and described him as "cold and callous" and showing no remorse for the shootings.

"I've been in law enforcement 20 years and I've never seen anything like this. This guy is bragging about it on social media," said Bartholomew.

Keisha Valentine and her son moved to Norlina to escape Earl Valentine's abuse, he said. A restraining order against Earl Valentine expired last month.

"He shot his own son. And for me and my guys, it's hard to wrap your brain around that. We're pretty angry about it especially the way he's acting over it," he said.

At the time of the phone calls, police say the suspect was believed to be in the Richmond area.

He could also be in Columbia, South Carolina as his mother lives there.

Bartholomew also confirmed that Valentine posted on his Facebook page that "I loved my wife, but she deserved what she had coming." The post has since been removed.

Valentine is facing a first-degree murder charge in his son's death.
