(WSLS 10) - Olive Garden restaurants across the country will serve lunch today to first responders. Restaurant employees will deliver the food and then serve as a way of recognizing the service of first responders. The restaurant chain has serve more than 10,000 meals over the last 15 years.

Hollins University joins other colleges and universities from across the country, competing in the Outdoor Nation Campus Challenge. People will compete to see who can spend the most time outside and active. The school with the most hours logged outside will be named champion. The challenge runs through mid-October.

If you're looking for something different for lunch or dinner today in Blacksburg, there's a new restaurant opening. McAlister's Deli will open this morning at 10:30. It's located in the University Crossroads development on Prices Fork Road.

Two golfers are hitting the greens today to make a difference. Mike Abraham and Jimmy Spencer will play at Hidden Valley Country Club starting at 6:30 this morning and play until they finish 100 holes. This is the fourth year they have done this to raise money for "Fold of Honor Foundation," which provides scholarships for children of fallen and wounded service members. The two have raised $22,000 over the past three years. They have raised $4,000 so far this year.

A group of Virginia Tech students will travel to the D-Day Memorial in Bedford today. The 380 first-year members of the Corps of Cadets will be joined by upper-class cadets, sharing their experiences after traveling to Normandy, France in May.

The Rockbridge Baths Volunteer Fire Department holds its annual Labor Day Festival today. There's a yard sale, entertainment, food and a car show. Events start at 8 a.m.

The City of Buena Vista holds its annual Labor Fest. The day begins with a 5K road race, followed by a parade at 9:30 a.m. The opening ceremonies and political speeches will begin at 11 a.m. The event draws several politicians, many of them running for election in November. Fireworks end the day at 9 p.m.
