It's an opportunity for local labor rights activists to celebrate victories over the years- as well as bring awareness to new goals like raising minimum wage.

Volunteer Jereme Mossor of Roanoke says the parade is an important tradition to uphold.

"Labor Day is everybody that works. If you go to work, you are a laborer. It doesn't matter if you are a janitor at a school or a CEO of a company. It's a day to celebrate that. It's a good weekend and why not?"

The parade focused on the November election, and the importance of "voting for the better life."
