(WSLS 10) - It's a shoppers paradise as the Hillsville Flea Market and Gun Show kicks off today. Vendors will set up throughout town selling everything from antiques, to vinyl records, baseball cards, clothes and more. Vendors will set up daily starting at 8 a.m., with most closing by 6 p.m. through Sunday and 4 p.m. on Monday. More than 500,000 people are expected to attend this annual event. Expect a lot of traffic in this area. We will talk more about the expected congestion coming up in Time Saver Traffic.

Roanoke Parks and Recreation launches a new dog walking wellness program today. City leaders will be at Highland Park this morning to announce the details of the program. After the announcement, volunteers from Angels of Assisi will take a walk through the park with dogs to officially launch the program.

The funeral takes place today for Gus Pappas, the owner of the Roanoke Weiner Stand. He died from a heart attack last week at the age of 82. Pappas came to the U.S. From Greece in 1955 and started working for the family business. The funeral is at 2 p.m. at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel. The weiner stand will remain closed today.

Former Virginia Secretary of Education, Anne Holton, will campaign in Roanoke today for her husband, Democratic Vice-Presidential nominee Tim Kaine. She will take a tour of Virginia Western Community College where she is expected to talk about Hillary Clinton and Kaine's commitment to "an economy that works for everyone."

Republicans in Danville and Pittsylvania County celebrate the Grand Opening of their joint headquarters. The office officially opened on August 24th. The grand opening celebration starts at 5:30 p.m. at the office which is located at the Forum on Piney Forest Road.
