MARTINSVILLE (WSLS 10) - Conway and Twitty are about 8 years old and have been at the Martinsville SPCA for about a month.
Conway is blind and Twitty acts as his seeing eye dog.
"He knows he's not by himself. That's a wonderful thing, I think, for us as well as the animals," said Sherry Curry, the SPCA's kennel manager.
The two were brought in to the SPCA together and have been inseparable ever since.
Curry said they don't know where the beagles were living before they ended up at the SPCA, but she thinks because they're so healthy and well-behaved, they may have been someone's pets at some point.
She said she's worked with blind dogs before, but never two that share a bond like Conway and Twitty.
"They'll cling to each other. Usually, if one goes away they'll whine," Curry explained. "You can just tell they're missing the other piece. It's kind of like a piece of a puzzle to them."
That bond is rubbing off on everyone at the SPCA.
"Each and every worker that's here; they've touched our hearts just because how bonded they are to each other and how much they need each other," said Phoebe Brown, an employee at the SPCA.
"I think it would do them so much good and it would make everybody here extremely happy to see them go to a home with each other," Brown continued.
Since the dogs were brought in, a few people have expressed interest in adopting them as Conway's blindness may be turning some people away.
"When they see a dog that's blind," said Brown, "they are kind of stand off-ish a little bit because they can't see, they don't really know what's going on around them."
Even so, the SPCA is confident Conway and Twitty will find a home.
Both dogs have been neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped and are very friendly and even good with cats.
"We're waiting on the right people," Curry said to Conway as she petted him.
"We are," Brown interjected.
"We're going to know it," said Curry.
