(WSLS 10) - The Bedford County Fair gets underway today. It's the second year of the event after a 45 year hiatus. Because of the crowds last year, the fair is expanding from three days to four. The fair includes food and rides, as well as a livestock show, educational events and numerous exhibits. The fair runs daily through Sunday. The fair opens at noon today.
People living and working in Roanoke will learn the State of the City today. Mayor Sherman Lea, City Manager Chris Morrill and Superintendent Rita Bishop will present at this year's event. It begins at 7:30 this morning at the Hotel Roanoke.

The Rotary Club of Salem holds a fundraiser, Star-B-Q. There will be food, barbeque, as well as entertainment. Chase Bryant as well as Rutledge are expected to play. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the gate.

A statewide ban on feeding deer begins today. Feeding deer causes the population to increase, increases disease transmission and collisions between the animal and cars. The ban remains in place through the first Saturday in January.
Feeding America Southwest Virginia hosts the 6th annual Elected Officials Volunteer Day. It's a day where state and local elected leaders will volunteer at local food bank across the Commonwealth. Roanoke Mayor Sherman Lea, Salem Supervisor Phil McCraw and others will send some time sorting produce in the food bank's quality assurance area.
Visitation takes place tonight for Gus Pappas, the owner of the Roanoke Weiner Stand. Friends and family will gather from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel. He died from a heart attack on Friday at the age of 82.
