Man charged in fatal DUI crash to appear in court

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - The man police say killed another man in a drunk-driving accident is in court today in Roanoke.

According to search warrants, police say Marvin Pannell smelled strongly of alcohol shortly after the July accident.

Officers also said he showed other signs of being drunk during a field sobriety test.

He is charged with driving under the influence and involuntary manslaughter, after police say he hit 35-year-old David Mitchell with his car.

Mitchell was crossing the 2800 block of Williamson Road* when it happened. He died at the scene.
