Search warrants reveal Chittum had gun, ammo and other items

ALLEGHANY COUNTY (WSLS 10) - Court records are revealing more information about Sunday's standoff in Alleghany County.

Court records show police searched Ricky Chittum's home in Covington. He faces felony assault charges after a nearly three-and-a-half-hour standoff with police near Lake Moomaw.

Authorities seized items including cell phones, a Smith & Wesson pistol, ammo and a burlap sack with the words "terrorist body bag" printed on it, according to a search warrant.

Family members say Chittum believed ISIS was coming to bomb the dam at Lake Moomaw.

In a video posted on Facebook, Chitttum said he wanted to protect Covington.

He also talks about how God told him to be a general of an army for Christ called Appalachian Christian Elite.

He goes on to say that followers should bring their faith and weapons.

Family members tell us the Army veteran suffered from PTSD.

Investigators say he had already been on their radar before the stand-off for previous anti-terrorist comments.
