Radford University students return to new building

RADFORD (WSLS 10) - Radford University students head back into the classroom Monday. This is the official photo for the class of 2020.  More than 1,700 students from 26 states make up this class.  The top states are Maryland, DC, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and West Virginia.

Students return to a brand new College of Humanities and Behavioral Sciences building that includes a court room, TV studio, emergency operations center and new forensic lab.  The first ever forensics lab trains students on professional equipment like what police agencies use so they can put into practice what they learn.  There is also a social media Watch Center that many police departments use for crime analysis and mapping.  The space is being used to teach security and emergency management courses. At 143,500 sq. ft., it is the largest academic building on campus.

The new building also includes an expanded Starbucks.

This marks President Brian Hemphill's first year on campus after starting July 1st.

More than 600 upper-level students volunteered over two days to help students move into the residence halls showing great "Highlander Spirit!"
