DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - Danville police charged a 32-year-old Danville man after they say he left two dogs in a hot SUV, one of which later died.
On Sunday, August 28, at about 3:57 p.m., officers responded to 325 Mall Drive in reference to a dog left unattended in a vehicle.
Once on the scene, officers found two dogs, both showing signs of physical distress, inside a white Chevrolet SUV. The outside temperature at the time was about 89 degrees.
The vehicle's owner, Tyshawn General was quickly found and while he admitted to ownership of the dogs, he refused to cooperate with officers and was taken into custody.
Once officers had the keys, the dogs were removed from the SUV and immediately placed inside of an air-conditioned police vehicle and transported to the Danville Area Humane Society where they were treated for life-threatening, heat-related symptoms.
One of the dogs, a 5-week-old puppy died. The puppy will be sent for a necropsy to determine a cause of death.
Police charged Tyshawn General with two counts of animal cruelty, one count of impeding police in violation and one count of simple possession of marijuana.
The investigation is continuing.
