Meet this week's pet of the week from the Roanoke Valley SPCA: B.B.!

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - BB is a one year old lab mix who is in need of a four month foster and then forever home. BB arrived at the shelter Heartworm positive. Heartworms can be fatal to dogs if untreated, but can easily be prevented with monthly medication prescribed from your veterinarian. Because heartworms are spread through the bite of a mosquito, any dog...even inside dogs should be on proper monthly medication.

BB's heartworms will be treated through a special fund at the Roanoke Valley SPCA called the Sarah Jane & Mickey Second Chance Fund. This special fund gives dogs with medical conditions a "second chance" at a forever home by making them medically ready for adoption.

BB's heartworm treatment will involve administering her medication that the RVSPCA will provide as well as transporting her to/from a few veterinary appointments at a local vets office. During her treatment it will be important for BB to be in a calm and quiet environment.

Individuals interested in fostering or fostering to adopt BB should contact Amber Miller, The Roanoke Valley SPCA Foster Coordinator at 540-339-9505.
