Institute for Advanced Learning and Research using drones to help local farmers

DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - The Institute For Advanced Learning and Research in Danville is showcasing how its new drone technology is helping farmers.

On Friday, about 50 people from three states came to the institute to hear a presentation and see a demonstration of the institute's AgBOT.

The drone is one of only five in the country.

It is being used to help farmers save money and produce larger, healthier yields.

"With the technology with the AgBOT and with the scientists' expertise, growers can reduce the amount of fertilizer and pesticides and over-watering today and that increases savings for them right now," said Melany Stowe, the IALR's PR director.

A similar presentation is planned next month to discuss the institute's research and developments with polymers.
