Firefighters prevent Roanoke County garage fire from spreading

ROANOKE COUNTY (WSLS 10) - Roanoke County fire and rescue crews prevented a garage fire from spreading to a two-story house on Wednesday afternoon.

Crews were dispatched to the 3000 block of Soft Drive just after 3 p.m. for a reported structure fire.

When they arrived, they found smoke and flames coming from the garage and searched the home before receiving word that no one was inside the home.

The roof of the garage began to collapse and crews were required to fight the flames from outside the structure, according to the department.

Crews from the North County, Hollins and Masons Cove stations, along with a crew from Roanoke City, contained the flames to the garage and had them knocked down in less than 30 minutes.

Fire investigators are on scene.
