Jane Alvarez-Wertz – NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Police continue to investigate how two passengers in a vehicle were shot on I-64 Monday afternoon.
Norfolk Police dispatch confirms the initial call just before 3:30 p.m. came in as two gunshot victims on I-64 east of Northampton Boulevard.

When State Police troopers arrived on scene, a man and woman in the back seat of a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado were suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where they are expected to recover from their injuries.
The Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) was called to assist in the investigation. They determined the Silverado, which was pulling a boat trailer, was merging onto I-64 from I-264 when the passengers were struck by a bullet. It is still unknown who fired the shot, or from where.
Video from Chopper 10 shows a bullet hole in the passenger door behind the driver.
"We see the [police] lights all the time, but normally we attribute it to an accident," said Mark Sumner, who lives near the scene.
Sumner said he wouldn't be surprised if the shooting stemmed from road rage.
"There's a lot of aggravated people up there," he said.
Officers remained on scene for several hours. Traffic was backed up for miles until about 6 p.m.
