Nursing home employees back at work after volunteering in Louisiana

DALEVILLE (WSLS 10) - Nursing home employees are back to work after spending a week on the ground volunteering in flooded Louisiana.

Seven from Carrington Place of Botetourt and one more from Rural Retreat traveled south to provide relief for the staff at a sister nursing home outside of Baton Rouge.

One volunteer, Sheila Wilson, even gave up her week of vacation to help out.

"We had employees down there that had not been home in days, Their houses were gone, everything was gone and we needed to go relieve them so they could go get a break and take care of the personal needs," Wilson explained, Assistant.

"You walk up to someone and ask them if they have been affected by the flood and almost without a wimmer there like yeah, I lost everything," Nursing Unit Manager, Jayson Parr explained.

Parr added many of the flood victims he came across had actually fled New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and were losing their belongings for a second time.
