UVA alerting students about reported rape

WVIR – CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - The University of Virginia is alerting students about a rape at knife point reported to police early Saturday morning.

The attack happened just after midnight on Emmet Street between McCormick Road and Thomson road.

According to an e-mail sent to the university community, a female victim says she was sexually assaulted by a stranger who was armed with a knife.

Press Release from the Charlottesville Police Department: 

The Charlottesville Police Department is currently investigating a sexual assault that occurred in the early morning hours of 08/20/2016. The female victim, a University of Virginia student, was approached from behind.

The suspect had a knife, pulled the victim from the sidewalk and assaulted her. The incident occurred on Emmet St, in the area of Thompson Road.

The suspect is described as a white male, between 20-30 years old, average height with light colored hair. No additional details are available at this time.
