(WSLS 10) - The case of a man who barricaded himself inside a home after trying to kill a Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Deputy goes before a grand jury today. Brian Cundiff is charged with attempted capital murder, possesion of a firearm during the commission of a felony and malicious wounding. Court documents show deputies responded to Cundiff's father's home in Keeling in April after Cundiff got into an argument with his father. Cundiff is accused of shooting at the deputies, grazing one of them on the head.

Today is the last day to apply for cooling assistance from the Department of Social Services. Assistance is available to households making below a certain income and has a child under the age of six, a disability, or an adult over the age of 60. Money is available to pay electric bills, security deposits, air conditioning system repair and installation charges.

Roanoke City Council could give final approval today, allowing Patrick Henry High School use its stadium for more sporting events. Earlier this month, the Planning Commission voted in favor of allowing the lights be used until 10 p.m. The stadium sound system can only be used during sporting events and graduations.

Big Brothers Big Sisters continues its 60 Men in 60 Days recruitment campaign today with an event at Benny Marconi's. The organization is looking for men to pair with boys as 97 percent of the children on the waiting list are boys. Some of the boys have been on the waiting list for over a year.

Frozen yogurt shop sweetFrog celebrates the birthday of one of its mascots, Scoop, today. At participating locations, Scoop will make an appearance and 25 percent of proceeds from sales will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

The southbound lane at Seventh and Main Streets in Lynchburg will close from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to allow crews to work on gas lines. The work will take place daily through Friday.

Lane closure could affect your evening plans in Christiansburg as crews make sewer repairs. Crews will work in the 100 block of First Street, which will be reduced to one lane heading toward South Franklin Street. Work will take place from 10 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.
