Fourth employee dies at Goodyear Facility in about a year

DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - The Danville Police Department responded to Goodyear Friday morning in reference to an industrial accident.

Goodyear Communications Director Laura Singleton released this statement:

We regret to report that early this morning, a death occurred in the Goodyear-Danville manufacturing facility. Goodyear's on-site emergency response team, as well as local emergency personnel responded immediately, and all parties are cooperating in the investigation into the root cause of the incident. Goodyear has reported the incident to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and will fully cooperate with the organization. Our hearts go out to the family, friends and co-workers of the employee during this very difficult time.

This is the fourth workplace death to happen at the Goodyear plant in about a year. On April 12, 52-year-old Greg Cooper died on the job. He worked at the plant for 18 years. The Medical Examiner's Office said his cause of death was drowning and thermal injuries. On March 31, Kevin Edmonds, 54, died in an industrial accident. His cause of death was ruled as asphyxiation. Jeanie Lynn Strader, 56, also died in an accident at the plant on August 31, 2015.
